At what point in our lives did we decide to move on from plastic plates to ceramic and glass?

I’m no less coordinated as an adult and I’ve seen kid’s plates survive being thrown on the ground. Plus, a Disney or Star Wars plate is much more fun than my plain grey ones at home.
