Your grandma probably makes them both (and they’re both better than her neighbor Sandra’s), but many people don’t stop to watch the different ways she makes jam and jelly. Both delicious spreads have a fruit base, but a jam is made of whole fruits while a jelly is made primarily from fruit juice.

A jelly gets its smooth, clear look because it is evenly strained through muslin to get any solids out of it. A jam is left as is and maintains the bumpy and textured look. The only thing that matters is that both are delicious.
