Misty husband had no idea that she was losing weight during the year he was away. We’re guessing there weren’t many photos sent back and forth to the base because Larry was absolutely shocked with her transformation. Larry had never seen Misty weight less than 220 lbs., and when she went to greet him at the airport on May 15, 2013, she weighed just 155 lbs. That’s over 100 lbs. of weight loss from her original weight of 260 lbs.

Larry was so shocked with his wife’s transformation that he was utterly speechless. The only thing he could manage to say was “Wow,” and he picked her up in his arms, which he’d never been able to before.

Picking up Misty was the Biggest Deal

Larry had never been able to lift Misty before. Of course, that didn’t make him love her any less, but it did affect her self-esteem. When Misty ran to Larry in the airport and was able to lift her off the ground, she almost broke down. This was the moment she had been waiting for, for so long.

“A lot of people look at it like, ‘Why is that such a big deal?'” she told CNN. “But [when] you never thought you’d see that moment, that somebody can pick you up … it is a big deal.”
