The two-part finale marked the end of the show about nothing. Seinfeld ended its nine-season run on May 14 to an audience of 76 million viewers. To throw people off from knowing the plot of the finale, the fake working title “A Tough Nut To Crack” was used to keep outsiders guessing.

The finale garnered strongly divided responses upon airing, which continues as a debate to this day. But really, the perceived joke of Jerry, Elaine, Goerge, and Kramer being convicted and imprisoned on the charge that they did nothing was somewhat of a play-on on the whole “show about nothing” perspective.
