The XVIII Olympic Winter Games were held in Nagano, Japan. 72 nations and over 2,000 participants in seven sports and 68 events at 15 venues. These Games were a breakthrough for certain events, with the introduction of women’s hockey, curling, and snowboarding.

NHL players were allowed to participate in the men’s tournament, which was the first time that’s ever happened. The Czech Republic would take home the gold medal for the men while the US women’s team would win gold in their tournament. The ladies wouldn’t see gold again until Pyeongchang 2018.
