The electronic robot that resembles a hamster-owl hybrid became a “must-have” toy in 1998. Following its holiday season launch, over 40 million Furbies were sold during the years of its original production. Furby had incredible speaking capabilities, which were translated into 24 languages.
Furby was the first successful attempt to produce and sell a domestically-aimed robot and many more toys were created based on that. After capturing the demand during the 1998 Christmas period, Furby had two short revivals — once in 2005, then again in 2012.
