The Mystery Of Caylee Anthony’s Murder & What Happened To Her Mother Casey

Heart Sticker Found on Casey’s Mouth

During the trial, it emerged that a heart-shaped sticker had been found on a corner of a piece of duct tape that has been used to cover Caylee’s mouth. FBI latent-print examiner Elizabeth Fontaine did not find fingerprints on the duct tape, which isn’t unusual given the time that the remains had been exposed outside to the elements. However, Fontaine noted the presence of the heart-shaped adhesive because it was unusual. The sticker was no longer visible after dye testing was performed on the tape, but it was similar to a roll of heart-shaped stickers police found in Casey’s bedroom.

Were the Crime Scene Photos Staged?

Forensic pathologist Dr. Werner Spitz testified on behalf of the defense, called the original autopsy “shoddy,” and criticized the medical examiner for not examining Caylee’s entire body, including her skull. He did a follow-up autopsy and said he was not comfortable ruling her death a homicide, saying there was no indication she was murdered. He believed duct tape was placed on the skull after the body decomposed. He also suggested some of the crime scene photos had been staged. He revealed during cross-examination: “It wouldn’t be the first time, sir. I can tell you some horror stories about that.”
