In 2012, conservative radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh weighed in on contraceptive mandates during his program. At the time, Georgetown University Law student Sandra Fluke had been speaking with House Democrats in support of mandating health insurance companies to cover birth control. Limbaugh called out Fluke for her views, labeling her with multiple expletive names that suggested she abused birth control. He continued to voice his opinion about her for several days. Following his tirade against Fluke, more than 100 local and national sponsors of his radio show severed ties with Limbaugh. He later apologized for his remarks, but the law student wasn’t impressed.
