On July 26, 2013, Ariel Castro pled guilty to 937 charges against him, including kidnapping, rape, aggravated murder (for the intentional induction of miscarriages inflicted on Knight). His charges called for consecutive sentences of life in prison plus 1,000 years, without parole. However, a month into his sentence, Castro committed suicide. He was found hanging with his pants and underwear around his ankles, unable to survive one month of the type of imprisonment he inflicted on Michelle Knight, Amanda Berry, and Gina DeJesus. All three girls and the child are said to have moved on. Berry and DeJesus remain close and have garnered national attention for their story. Knight has been in therapy and is trying to help other survivors.
