At 92 years old, Cicely Tyson was the oldest person to receive this honor at the event. The actress has been acting for over 50 years and has many awards to show for it. Her acting has really shaped the future of younger generations before her.

“Cicely was never the likeliest of Hollywood stars,” stated Obama. “The daughter of immigrants from the West Indies, she was raised by a hardworking and religious mother who cleaned houses and forbade her children to attend the movies. But once she got her education and broke into the business, Cicely made a conscious decision not just to say lines, but to speak out.”
