The Amazing Citizens Who Received Medals Of Freedom!
Eduardo Padrón
This is a story you’re going to love to hear. The story of someone who was dealt a tough hand as a youth but played the cards he was dealt to make the best of it and still prevail. That is what Eduardo Padrón accomplished and he has a lot to show for it.
“As a teenage refugee from Cuba, Eduardo Padrón came to the United States to pursue the American Dream, and he has spent his life making that dream real for others,” said Obama. He is the president of Miami Dade College and has helped make it the premier institutes in the nation.
Diana Ross
The Grammy Lifetime Achievement award winner, Diana Ross, was yet another musician who got herself a pretty medal. When Obama said her name the audience laughed and applauded because the audience knows how much he loves oldies, soul, and R&B. He then gave a beautiful speech about her.
“A daughter of Detroit, Diana Ross helped create the sound of Motown with her iconic voice,” Obama said. “She has influenced generations of young artists and shaped our Nation’s musical landscape. In addition to a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award and countless musical accolades, Diana Ross has distinguished herself as an actor, earning an Oscar nomination and a Golden Globe Award.”
