Grace Hopper (Posthumous)

Another person who has passed on and was not able to physically accept her award was Grace Hopper. She was an incredibly smart woman that did major things with limited resources and chances given to her. Quite frankly, if not for her some of the technologies you use today would not be around or maybe would have come about later than they originally did.

“From cell phones to cyber command, we can thank Grace Hopper for opening programming to millions more people, helping to usher in the information age and profoundly shaping our digital world,” Obama proudly said. Many thanks go to Hopper.

Joe Biden!

Getting this medal brought real tears to the eyes of Joe Biden. It has often been joked across the internet that Obama and Biden are best friends. And after what they’ve gone through together, they probably are. Tons of memes that show the two joking around with each other. This was a symbol of mutual respect. It did not happen at the original ceremony and was a surprise. Which made it even more special because Biden did not have a clue it was coming.

Obama said he gave him the award for, “Faith in your fellow Americans, for your love of country and a lifetime of service that will endure through the generations.”
