While Jill Cummins began to grow concerned with the nature of the relationship between her husband and Elizabeth, she was more concerned with his teaching career than any romantic implications. Jill explained to Inside Edition, that she thought her husband was growing too close to the girl and could be reprimanded for it.

However, she thought that his closeness was of the innocent nature, but could be misconstrued because of his role as her teacher. She explained, “He was getting really close to her. A father-daughter close, a friendship close, and I knew that. I discussed that with him. And explained to him, ‘She’s your student, you can’t be so close to her.’” However, Jill was still completely shocked to find out that there was a romantic relationship going on. Jill said, “Never did I think there was a romantic thing between the two of them. There were no signs of that.” Sadly, the devoted wife was completely blindsided by the abduction and quickly filed for divorce.
