Teachers Who Go Above and Beyond the Job
Tony Award Winning Teacher
Marilyn McCormick dedicated her life to teaching children at Detriot’s Cass High School, and she has inspired and helped hundreds of students. McCormick was nominated for and won the excellence in theater education award at the Tonys. I’m going to miss the kids so much,” she said to Fox news. “Because, I guess they gave me purpose. If nothing else, I know I have to get up and go because I know I can touch somebody’s life today.” Mrs. McCormick was retiring and looking forward to her grandbaby and some downtime, but still was amazed by the experience. “I’m walking over here and Josh Groban, who gave me my award, he was standing there like the gates of heaven had opened up.”
The Teacher Who Didn’t Let Her Miss A Day
Cara Cuper was teaching little Olive Diamond kindergarten when Oliva was diagnosed with T-cell lymphoma which is a type of blood cancer. Olivia was pulled out of school as her treatment began, and Mrs. Cuper wasn’t sure how they were going to ensure that little Olivia kept up with her learning. Then she had an idea: IPads! Using two IPads, one at school and one at home, Mrs. Cuper continued to teach Olivia. Oliva’s parents say that Olive didn’t miss a single day of instruction! “We never were able to fall. I mean, there were really dark days but we never were alone,” Megan said to CNN. Now Olivia is cancer free and back at school.
