Teachers Who Go Above and Beyond the Job
Going The Extra Mile
Race day at Colonial Hills Elementary School was a big deal for all the students, and Matt Woodrum, who suffers from cerebral palsy, wanted to run. Woodrum began running and was giving it his all, but was struggling intensely as he willed his body to listen to his commands. His gym teacher, John Blaine, saw that Woodrum was struggling. Blaine jogged up next to Woodrum and instead of wondering if he should quit, he encouraged Woodrum to continue. The whole class ended up trailing Matt Woodrum, shouting support and encouragement as he ran, and great cheers erupted as they all crossed the finish line, together.
A Quick Lesson In Proper Sock Use
Sanford Johnson was teaching the always awkward sex-education seminar at the high school when the instructors told him he wasn’t allowed to talk about proper condom use. This made teaching safe sex more difficult. However, off the cuff, Johnson thought of a ridiculous but perfect solution: he made a video to teach kids how to properly put on a sock if they were ever to “be engaged in a sock activity.” Watching the video is hilarious and actually instructive, surely a reason that it was a huge hit with the kids and then beyond, as the video of sock safety and instruction has received a wider audience than Johnson intended.
