Teachers Who Go Above and Beyond the Job
A Hero Of Sandy Hook Elementry
Most of us are all too familiar with the horrific story of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting, where teenage shooter Adam Lanza took the lives of both children and teachers. Victoria Soto was only twenty-seven years old when she did the bravest thing imaginable: she ran toward certain death. As Victoria heard shots, she began ushering her students into a storage locker to hide and save them. Victoria came face to face with Adam Lanza, and stood in front of her kids. Lanza shot Victoria as she rushed toward him. She died protecting the children in her care. This teacher is a hero we will never forget. Her selfless actions saved the lives of her students.
He Risked His Life To Save His Students
Gyorgy Vigh, a physical education teacher at Szinyei Merse Pal Grammar School, was chaperoning a school skiing trip when the bus that he and his students were on collided with a concrete barrier and burst into flames. Vigh took action, quickly working to get the students off the bus in order to save their lives. He also suffered severe burns in the process. But horribly, Vigh was not able to save his own children, ages 30 and 18, who were also on the bus. Both his son and his daughter perished in the fire. Although he helped save many students, sixteen people total died in this horrific accident, and Vigh was immediately hospitalized for his severe burns.
