In 2012, approximately 661,000 people were reportedly missing in the United States Of America alone. Most of these missing person cases are solved, but unfortunately, Janet Garrett was a case that concluded with her death. It is reported that after the vehicular collision, she evaded the scene of the accident in hopes of fleeing from the law. About a week prior to the accident, written accounts suggest that on March 2nd, 2017, Janet was notified of a grand jury decision indicting her for a felony charge of breaking and entering.

Rather than face the consequences of her actions, Janet Garett decided not to attend her pre-trial hearing resulting in a warrant for her arrest being granted by Judge Jerry McBride. Assistant police chief Mike Mills said the following, “There are warrants out for her arrest for the leaving the scene of an accident and, I believe, a felony warrant for the B&E charge. At this point, she is considered a fugitive from the law.”

In regards to the accident that occurred on March 9th, it is suspected that Janet was driving under the influence of alcohol when she attempted a haphazard right-hand turn causing her 2006 Chrysler PT Cruiser to strike a 2014 Kia Sorento driven by a 56-year-old woman. Fortunately, no one seemed severely injured in the accident, but both cars sustained significant damage. As it turns out, a 48-year-old man who accompanied Janet Garrett was in the car when the accident occurred; he witnessed her turn into oncoming traffic and thereafter evade the scene.

People all over the United States lobbied together on social networks to show their support and hopefully lend a helping hand in locating Janet Garrett. Sadly, police arrived at Clermont County Equipment to find her body in a crate. No signs of foul play were noted and medical examiners are yet to determine the cause of death.

It’s safe to say that the accident could have been a huge contributing factor in her death. In the United States of America, statistics reveal that 35,092 deaths by car crashes occurred in just 2015. Until medical examiners or coroners release an official statement, all we can do is speculate that internal damage from the accident coupled with a lack of medical attention due to evasion all contributed to her untimely demise.

Janet Garrett was the sole caregiver of her mother who is battling dementia and she leaves behind family and friends who are nothing short of heartbroken over the tragic news of her demise. From the facts of this case, do you think Janet intentionally ran away from the scene of the accident to evade police or could it be that a combination of alcohol, shock, and injury from the accident hindered her ability to make a law-abiding decision? Either way, this is a tragically sad case.
