A farmer named Mark Clifford saw an apparition of a man who looked like a walking skeleton. He later found out that it was Ricky Megee, a 35-year old who had been lost in the outback for over two months. Megee was drugged and left for dead by a hitchhiker he had picked up.

Megee actually survived the nightmare. As soon as he was left to die, he stayed close to a dam, where he built a subterranean shelter under an overturned cattle trough. During this ordeal, he lived off frogs, lizards, leeches, and grasshoppers before being found.
