Meet Wenseslao Moguel, the man who was captured during the Mexican Revolution on March 18, 1915. He was sentenced to death by a firing squad and was shot eight times. One close-range shot through his head to make sure that he was dead, but he feigned death until the shooters left.

Somehow, Moguel escaped and became a household name for his near-death experience. Interestingly enough, the man who survived gunshots has come to be known as Mr. Ripley from none other than Ripley’s Believe It Or Not.
