The Perfect Storm was based on the real-life events that happened to the members of 106th Rescue Wing. On Halloween 1991, Air National Guardsmenment Lt. Col. Save Ruvola, co-pilot Lt. Col. Graham Buschor, Tech Sgt. John Spillane, and Jim Mioli went on a rescue mission to save a stranded fisherman.
Unfortunately, they too were caught in the storm after their hh-60 Pave Hawk helicopter experienced a breakdown. It crashed into the North Atlantic and battled waves that were 10 stories high one night. Each man had to rely on the other to stay alive.
