People Who Survived What Should Have Been Instant Death
Natural and man-made disasters often challenge our true understanding of the world. But every so often, stories of courage and perseverance emerge from out of the dark. People will hear stories about going against the odds in survival situations. Stories that are so gut-wrenching and thrilling, it makes us wonder how they faced death head on and came out on top.
Whether it’s being lost at sea, losing a limb or walking through harsh cold temperatures, these people survived the odds of staying alive. While many of us struggle to get through a normal work week unscathed, these people show what a person can do when their back is up against the wall.

The frigid landscape of the North Pole is a stark and rather dangerous environment. But, the idea of having an all-women North Pole expedition turned out to be one amazing story. Answering an ad in a newspaper, 20 amateur explorers attempted to ski from Arctic Canada to the top of the world.
The ad attracted 200 applicants, with the team being condensed and split into five groups of 20. The explorers faced -50 degrees Fahrenheit temperatures, blasting winds, and ever-changing ice which could crumble at any second. The women survived and the experience reshaped the course of many lives, but it’s unlikely that there will be a similar expedition thanks to the melting ice caps.
