While he has been serving prison sentence, Joran somehow met a woman and got married. In 2014, he married local woman Leidyl Figueroa. The two met while Leidy was visiting another relative who was also incarcerated. They got married in prison and she became pregnant with his child.

Later that year, Joran was stabbed while in prison. Joran said that he had been attacked by other prisoners. The Chief of the Prison said that he stabbed himself in an effort to get more publicity. Leidy Figueroa, Joran’s wife, even smuggled his blood-covered shirt out of the prison to show the media.
