Inventors Who Maybe Should’ve Read The Manual Of Their Own Invention That Ended Up Killing Them
Francis Edgar Stanley
Stanley Motor Carriage Company was founded by Francis E. Stanley and his twin, Freelan O. Stanley. They developed the very first steam engine-based car that they were very excited to show off. The brothers got into the automotive industry after selling their dry plate photography company which earned them a lot of money.
Francis ended up crashing into a woodpile and dying while he was driving a Stanley Steamer. He was attempting to avoid farm wagons traveling side-by-side on the road and lost control, which ultimately led to his tragic death in 1918.
