Inspiring TED Talks To Listen To If You’re Having A Bad Day
“The Fringe Benefits of Failure” by J.K. Rowling
J.K. Rowling went from being a broke, unemployed mother who was nearly homeless to the author of the bestselling Harry Potter series. Without failure, Rowling may have never had success.
In the author’s Harvard speech-turned-TED Talk, she attributes her success purely to failure. Once she found herself at rock bottom, she was able to stop pretending that she was someone she was not. This allowed her to focus only on the work that mattered to her – writing her novel. Once her greatest fear had been realized(failure). She was set free, proving that everything has a silver lining and the worst day could actually lead you right to your best. “Rock bottom became the solid foundation on which I rebuilt my life,” she said.
“Hi, I’m Scott” by Scott Mescudi
When you’re having a terrible day, it’s easy to look at your fellow neighbor and be jealous of what they have. It’s so easy to fall into the trap of cutting others down who have what you want, but this is a terrible way to think. Kid Cudi’s amazing TED Talk shows us the importance of surrounding yourself with successful people, squashing jealousy, and supporting your friends even if you see failure after failure.
Kid Cudi is a two-time Grammy award winning artist, but he wasn’t always the successful solo artist we know. If it weren’t for his collaborators and friends, he’d had never gained the recognition he now has. If you’re stuck in the rut of browsing Facebook and feeling sorry for yourself that you don’t appear as happy and successful as your friends, stop what you’re doing and watch this talk immediately.
