Harry Houdini Dies from a Punch

On Halloween in 1926, magician Harry Houdini dies of gangrene and peritonitis resulting from a ruptured appendix, which was damaged twelve days earlier when he was punched in the stomach unexpectedly. For 10 years after Houdini’s death, his wife Bess conducted a Halloween seance. Though Bess stopped participating in the seances after 1937, others have kept the tradition. Each Halloween, there are numerous Houdini seances held in various locations around the world.
