Jesse Misskelley, Damien Echols, and Jason Baldwin were accused of the crimes, prosecuted and found guilty in court. Echols got the death sentence, Misskelley got life plus 20 years and Baldwin got life with no chance of parole. In 2009, 18 years later, all were freed basically due to lack of evidence. The case is now considered “solved” by the police, but “open” (cold).
