Mark Kelly is an American astronaut, engineer, and U.S. Navy Captain. In his book, Gabby: A Story of Courage and Hope, Kelly describes having lunch with Stephen Hawking in 2006. While Kelly felt impatient waiting for Hawking to type out responses to his questions, his wife, Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, waited patiently for Hawking’s replies.
Kelly writes, “It was as if Gabby was giving me a message back in 2006: ‘Watch me. I will be your teacher. Someday, you’ll have to be patient with me and this is how you’ll need to do it.” When Gabby was recovering from an assassination attempt in 2011, Kelly had to put that patience into practice.
