He was a popular ’80s child star, but his acting roles began to dwindle as he grew up and his life spun out of control. Since Benitez couldn’t make it as an actor, he chose to make ends meet by being a drug dealer. In 2000, he was convicted of drug charges and carrying a concealed and loaded illegal firearm.
