Inside The Fundamentalist Church of the Latter Day Saints
Women Can’t Show Their Ankles
FLDS women wear pastel-colored prairie dresses every single day of their lives, but this wasn’t always the case. The practice began after a raid of a Colorado City compound in 1953. Now, women wear the dresses to retain their modest good looks. They believe uniform dress discourages jealousy between wives in polygamist marriages. Those particular dresses (which cover every inch of their body besides their necks, faces, and hands) discourage men from throwing around evil, lustful glares. Little did they know that an old-fashioned prairie dress isn’t going to stop an old letch from giving some lusty side eye. Then again, the middle-aged men who run the FLDS community probably can’t handle all of their teen brides as it is.
