Putin was born and raised as a devout Orthodox Christian and strictly follows its teachings, especially the ones that some may consider being rather harsh. It has been noted that Putin believes that same-sex marriage is equally as terrible as Satan-worshipping. He has publicly stated in 2013 that Russia should stay clear of countries that are “going away from their roots” and in 2016 signed an “anti-extremism” law that essentially outlaws minority “foreign” religions. In 2012, Putin was even honored in Bethlehem in which a street was then named after him. That doesn’t happen every day.
