Times Activists Made Their Voices Heard in 2016

Activists Showed Their Support of the LGBT Community & Victims

Following the deadly shooting in Orlando at Pulse nightclub, the nation rallied support behind the LGBT community. Government buildings lit up with rainbows, candlelit vigils took place, and activists marched in the streets to show their support, and call for justice for the victims. Although some anti-gay rhetoric occurred in response to the shooting, overall people were positive and showed their support and love for the LGBT community.

“I’m here tonight to show my support for the LGBTQ community and to lend my voice. It’s wonderful to see this many people express their love and respect for each other even though people have differences,” said Julián Castro, secretary of Housing and Urban Development and former mayor of San Antonio during a vigil in Texas.
