Times Activists Made Their Voices Heard in 2016
Largest Protest in South Korea History
The protests against President Park Geun-hye were the largest in the history of the country, bringing together hundreds of thousands, and sometimes millions of people fighting for the cause. Even after the first snowfall, protesters showed up in strong numbers. President Park Geun-hye has apologized to the people of South Korea for her involvement with assisting a friend of hers, Choi Soon-sil, coerce businesses into contributing large sums of money to her foundations. It’s apparent that the people have not accepted her apology, and Park still refused to resign.
The protests proved to be successful, as lawmakers officially started the process of impeaching the President during the first week of December, and may come to a decision as early as December 9th, 2016.
