Times Activists Made Their Voices Heard in 2016
Blood and Oil
The protests have taken a turn for the worst, with unarmed activists being rushed the hospital to be treated for hypothermia, abrasions from attack dogs and rubber bullets at close range, and severe reactions to the pepper spray and tear gas that police force is using on activists. Hundreds of activists have been injured, and 26 were reported to be seriously injured enough to be rushed to the hospital.
For whatever reason, mainstream media has chosen to stay clear of reporting on the protest, and it has largely been a grass roots movement promoted and shared on social media. Many of the photos and videos have gone viral. With a deadline given by police of December 2016 to vacate Standing Rock, it’s going to be a fierce battle to the end.
