During summers in the city, many people can be seen lounging out on their fire escapes. This tragic event took place in 1975 on Marlborough Street in Boston. 19-year-old Diana Bryant and her goddaughter, 2-year-old Tiare Jones, can be seen here falling from their collapsed fire escape. Bryant and Jones were at the farthest end of the fire escape, awaiting rescue from local fire fighters. Just as a ladder was being put up for them to be rescued, the fire escape caught fire and gave out, causing the young women to fall five stories to the ground.
