California Surf Culture Of The 1960s
This photo was taken by photographer LeRoy Grannis. Before the onset of WWII, Grannis himself was a surfer and is noted to be a part of the pioneer generation that brought the Hawaiian tradition of surfing to the mainland. After WWII, Grannis had settled down and took up photography as a hoppy. Grannis took to photographing the 1960s surf culture of California with vivid Technicolor shots that glorified the enchanting California coast back then. Grannis passed away in February 2011 in his native Hermosa Beach, but his iconic photos will live on for a lifetime.
