Woodstock Was Not What People Expected

One man who attended Woodstock in 1969 recounted to USA Today his experience with the whole festival. Although he and his then-girlfriend purchased tickets for the event, it was later announced that admission was free. More than 400,000 people showed up in upstate New York, causing a weekend of raucous within the Catskill Mountains. Cars went missing and people camped out in obliging residents’ homes, sometimes up to 20 to 30 people sleeping on the floor. Despite the craziness that the festival caused, the performances of many great musical acts will forever resonate with those who were fortunate enough to attend.
