Legendary Strides For John Glenn
This is a picture of legendary NASA astronaut John Glenn. In 1959, Glenn was selected as a Project Mercury astronaut and became the first American to orbit the Earth on February 20, 1962. Glenn orbited the Earth three times over five hours, traveling faster than 17,000 mph. Just over 30 years later, Glenn once again made history when he became the oldest person to travel to space at the age of 77. Glenn was a payload specialist on the space shuttle Discovery to participate in experiments that tested how his older body would react in space. John Glenn has lived an impressive life that sadly came to an end in December 2016 at the age of 95.
