Towards the end of his life, German-born theoretical physicist Albert Einstein was working at Princeton and living in America to escape Nazi Germany. But by the age of 76, the world renowned genius’s heart began to give out. On April 18, 1955, Einstein passed away of heart failure, refusing surgery because as he put it, “I want to go when I want. It is tasteless to prolong life artificially. I have done my share, it is time to go. I will do it elegantly.” Before his passing, Einstein had brought with him to the hospital a speech commemorating the State of Israel’s seventh anniversary, however, he didn’t survive long enough to complete it.
