Fighting For Civil Rights At An Early Age
Bernie Sanders has always fought for everyone, no matter their race, age, gender, or sexual orientation. This photograph from 1962 depicts Sanders addressing his fellow students at a sit-in in the University of Chicago’s administration building. They were protesting discrimination against blacks in university-owned housing. Sanders himself was a member of CORE, the Congress of Racial Equity, which was founded in Chicago 1942 as an interracial social justice group that was dedicated to nonviolent principles. To this day, Sanders still works towards those same priciples and is still an outspoken civil rights activist.
