Over 50 Years After JFK’s Assassination, Conspiracy Theories Still Carry Weight

Or Was Texas Governor John Connally The Intended Target?

Yet another conspiracy theory was that Oswald had not intended to shoot President Kennedy. Instead, he was aiming for another man in the limo, Democratic Texas Governor John Connally. As previously mentioned, Oswald had made an assassination attempt on General Major General Edwin Walker earlier that year, so it made sense that he had several people on his hit list.

In fact, a hit list was uncovered at Oswald’s apartment after the assassination. A little green book listed four names: Edwin Walker, Richard Nixon, James Hosty, and John Connally. In an LA Times Op-Ed piece, writer James Reston Jr. claims Oswald drew a bloody dagger through Connally’s name.

Oswald’s widow Marina was called to give testimony in court, and gave a reason for people to believe in this theory.
