Over 50 Years After JFK’s Assassination, Conspiracy Theories Still Carry Weight

Another Theory: The CIA Let It Happen

The Cuban Missile Crisis was the biggest issue of President Kennedy’s term in office, and also the most controversial. Internally, the CIA and the White House had disagreements over how to handle the crisis. The CIA was eager to move quickly to disarm Fidel Castro and wanted to move forward with airstrikes. But Kennedy wanted to pull back and keep the discussion with Cuba open, to avoid WW III.

This led to another conspiracy theory, that the CIA was associated with Oswald, and had planned to allow him to assassinate JFK. People who believe this theory point to the slow reaction of the CIA and police after the fact, and the low security of Kennedy’s topless convertible in a public space.

Or did Castro have a hand in the killing?
