When John F. Kennedy was sworn into office as the President of the United States on January 20, 1961, he had a lot on his plate. The country was recovering from WW II while civil rights movements and the threat of nuclear war was on the minds of every American. He was handed military plans and foreign relations strategies for Vietnam and Cuba, passed to him from his predecessor Dwight D. Eisenhower.

With so much on the presidential desk during that time in America, above all else, Kennedy wanted to unite the country. Although his fate awaited him, his infamous inaugural address lives on: “Ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country.”
