Over 50 Years After JFK’s Assassination, Conspiracy Theories Still Carry Weight
J. Edgar Hoover Knew Conspiracy Theories Would Come Next
At the time of Kennedy’s assassination, J. Edgar Hoover was the Director of the FBI. The office had their hands full with the investigation when they received a call warning the FBI that people in Dallas were organizing to retaliate and kill Oswald for assassinating the president. Hoover quickly reacted to the seriousness of the call, but seemed convinced that Oswald would be safe in protective custody. However, he was shot dead the next day. Immediately, Hoover was concerned conspiracy theories would soon follow.
Fox News reported that Hoover said, “The thing I am concerned about, and so is [deputy attorney general] Mr. Katzenbach, is having something issued so we can convince the public that Oswald is the real assassin.”
