Over 50 Years After JFK’s Assassination, Conspiracy Theories Still Carry Weight
Soviet Union’s Reaction to Assassination Uncovered
In late October of 2017, the remaining files of the JFK Assassination Records were released. One document that garnered attention was a forwarded memo from J. Edgar Hoover in 1966. The memo detailed the reaction of the Soviet Union upon hearing news of JFK’s assassination. While some conspiracy theorists believe there might have been a Soviet Union connection in Kennedy’s death, the memo leads people to believe otherwise.
It notes that the Soviet Union government was concerned over his assassination, mostly worried that whoever would be brought into office would hastily launch a missile in their direction. The Soviet Union also speculated that the assassination was an organized effort on the part of several people, possibly the American party of the ‘ultraright’.
FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover knew Oswald’s death would be problematic.
