Times We Asked For A Simple Plate, But Edgy Restaurants Went Way Too Far Instead
One of the latest restaurant fads is to skip using plates and serve food on something more creative. Sometimes this results in a neat food presentation, but mostly it leaves people scratching their heads, wondering how the heck they're going to eat. The method one restaurant uses to serve ravioli will make you wonder how they're still in business. Simply put, WE WANT PLATES!
I'm Not Drinking That
As good as that pork looks, serving it on top of a beverage takes things way too far. And how is this person supposed to enjoy their sweet tea? Sure, there is a straw, but we're pretty sure that the meat drippings are going to make it impossible to drink that.
Can We Get This Deboned?
We're not sure which is worse -- the serving size of that entree or the fact that it is served on a bone. Probably the latter, because no matter how good or plentiful the food is, eating off of a bone is just creepy. Save the bones for dogs and give us a plate, okay?
Of Course There's A Pillow
Okay, meringue does make us think of fluffy pillows when we see it, but still, is it necessary to serve a dessert on one? No. We will admit, the levitation trick is cool, though. Keep reading to see one restaurant who uses stairs in place of plates.

We will admit the french fries in shot glasses is cute, but they really should have skipped on putting ketchup in the glasses. Soggy french fries are the worst, and there's no doubt that these fries would be inedible by the time they made it to the table.
Tree Of...Taco?
Step aside, Tree of Life. You know how half of the taco filling seems to fall out while eating? Well, good luck scooping it back up since this restaurant decided not to use plates. Instead, you'd have to pick up food off the tablecloth, and let's be honest, no one is going to do that.
Stairmaster, Food Style

Okay, technically they used a plate, but half of the dish is served using a wine glass in the weirdest way possible, so it counts. Next time let's skip utilizing wine glasses to serve onions and fruit and just fill them to the brim with the good stuff.
These People Must Be Stopped
So far we've seen some crazy ways restaurants have served food, but the place that replaced their plates with umbrellas really takes the cake. This restaurant doesn't even get points for presentation, because there's nothing visually appealing about a plain old umbrella. Stop the madness, already!

Whoever had the idea to remove ravioli from their natural environment of sauce and cheese and instead hang them on a clothesline really needs to evaluate their decisions in life. And there's not even a little cup of sauce to dip the ravioli in. Seriously, this should be considered a crime against humanity.
Where's Oscar The Grouch?
We understand that this restaurant is going for being edgy by opting not to use plates, but serving food in a mini trash can? Really? Because nothing says "appetizing" quite like seeing your food brought out to you in a little trash can. Someone please tell us that at least there isn't any ketchup underneath those fries.

Serving food in a container made of LEGO blocks is a nifty idea, but what happens when someone picks it up the wrong way and drops it? Food and LEGO pieces will be everywhere. That's no good for anyone, so maybe a traditional bread basket would be the best way to go.

On one hand, at least all of the food isn't thrown together, the ketchup is served by itself, and the food is on a flat surface. On the other hand, the food is on what appears to be part of an old box. It might look kind of cool, but it's a bit gross at the same time.

At least if the patrons of this restaurant don't finish their meals, they have a bag on hand to use to take the rest of the food home. Really, though, there almost aren't any words for how bad this plate replacement is. We can't help but wonder what happens when saucier meals are ordered?
Stone Cold Pasta
Kudos to the foodie who decided to creatively demand a plate after his pasta was served on a slab made of stone. It's not the worst plate substitute in this slideshow, but just thinking about the sound of the utensils scraping on the slab is enough to make our skin crawl.
Yule Love This...Not
There's just something a little off-putting about serving food in holes drilled in a wood log. Hopefully, the server doesn't drop one of these babies on his foot! We get that people in the city might want to get back to nature a little, but maybe bringing in some plants would be the better way to go.
One Fish, Two Fish...
Can you imagine your server bringing out your food where the plate is an aquarium with food on the top? Because that's exactly what this restaurant is doing, and it's probably one of the weirdest things we've ever seen. Whatever happened to having a tasteful aquarium along one of the walls in a restaurant?
Bucket O' Food
This bucket full of food probably seems pretty tame compared to the other substitutions we've seen for plates in this slideshow, but it still leaves us wishing for a simple plate. Trying new things is cool, but sometimes the tried and true method is the best way to go.
