It’s crazy to think the Elf on the Shelf was a 2000s creation. I always thought it was a Christmas tradition that was at least a few decades old. In reality, the character became popular thanks to a children’s book published in 2005 titled “The Elf on the Shelf: A Christmas Tradition,” wherein the tiny elf is pictured sitting on a bunch of things.
