Oprah’s Latest Health Problem Even Scared Her Doctor
Oprah Winfrey recently shared she had a terrifying health scare after she got back from a trip overseas. After realizing that her sickness might not be a regular cold like she originally thought, she went to the doctors to discover she had pneumonia.
After her first trip to the emergency room, she was given antibiotics to take. Unfortunately, after a week of taking them, she showed no signs of improving. She returned to the doctor who then referred her to see a lung specialist.
She explained to the lung specialist that she had "a little rattling" in her chest and realized it was serious once she saw his reaction.
"I see the 'Oh s**t' face. It's like, 'Oh my, something's wrong with you,' and I can see it, and he didn't hide it. He said, 'You must immediately cancel everything.' I've never canceled anything in my life. I work when I'm sick," said Winfrey on The Ellen Degeneres Show.
"He said, 'You can't fly anywhere for a month' and then he had 18 vials of blood drawn and I thought, this must be serious," said Winfrey.
Thankfully, she recovered after about a week once she was taking the correct antibiotics.
"He called me every day to make sure I was using the inhaler and taking the right antibiotics, and when I walked in and I was better, he thanked me three times for getting better," said Winfrey. "[He] said, 'Can I have a hug?' And I could tell he was like, 'Not on my watch is this going to happen."
