Be Sure To Catch These Titles Coming to Netflix In May
While people are staying at home in quarantine during this uncertain time, it's always a good idea to jump into another world for a little while. And what better way to do that then some Netflix movies and shows! In May, the streaming platform is going to add some new content for people to enjoy.
Everything from docu-series such as Trial By Media to comedies like The Wrong Missy will be included. Even new seasons of some hit shows, such as the dark comedy Dead to Me, will be added to Netflix's catalog. Keep scrolling; you might just find a few shows or movies you'd like to watch.
All Day And A Night
Starring Jeffrey Wright and Ashton Sanders, All Day and a Night is a new drama film that is scheduled to release on the Netflix streaming platform in May. The movie follows the life of Jah, an African-American man who finds himself in the same prison as his father.
Interestingly, the film is shot in a series of flashbacks, as Jah thinks back on his life leading up to the arrest. He does this in hopes of finding clues that will help him move forward with his life and survive the harsh reality of prison.
Den of Thieves
Den of Thieves is an action drama that stars 50 Cent, Gerard Butler, and Pablo Schreiber. The story follows Butler's character Nick O'Brien, the leader of an elite unit in the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, the Regulators, as he goes toe to toe with Ray Merrimen, the leader of the Outlaws.
The latter is a gang of ex-military men who use their special skill set to evade the law. Soon, the cops and the gang find themselves facing off, as Merrimen and his men plot a heist on the city's Federal Reserve Bank. Want to know who wins in the end? The film comes to Netflix in May!
Fun with Dick & Jane
Released 15 years ago, Fun with Dick & Jane takes us back to a time when all we needed was a good old-fashioned Jim Carrey movie. After losing his job at Globodyne, Dick and his wife Jane turn to a life of crime to pay off their large debt.
The couple ends up liking their new life, that is until they realize innocent people get hurt from their stealing. Then, in a weird plot twist, they learn that Dick's former boss swindled the company. So, obviously, Dick and Jane come up with a revenge scheme. See what happens to Dick and Jane when the movie comes to Netflix in May!
Hollywood
Created by famed producer Ryan Murphy comes a limited miniseries called Hollywood. This series follows actors and actresses post World War II as they try to make it in Hollywood, no matter the cost. It showcases a group of actors as each gives a unique perspective of what goes on behind the gilded curtain of Hollywood's Golden Age.
Hollywood dives into the unjust systems and biases across sexuality, gender, and race that a lot of actors and actresses still deal with to this day. If you're into miniseries, you're not going to want to miss Hollywood when it comes out on Netflix in May.
The Half of It
The coming-of-age drama The Half of It explores the complex relationship between three unlikely people during high school. Ellie Chu is a shy, straight A-student who does her classmates' school work for some extra cash on the side. Insert Paul Munsky, the school jock who asks Ellie to help him write love letters to Aster Flores.
Little does Paul know, Ellie is in love with Aster, too. So, the three of them embark on a strange triangle of friendship, discovering a lot about their feelings and unique connection along the way. If you're interested to see how this love story ends, be sure to watch the film in May.
Arctic Dogs
The animated film Arctic Dogs is the perfect choice for anyone with young kids. The film follows Swifty, a fox who figures out Otto Von Walrus' plan to drill underneath the ice, expelling enough gas to melt the arctic. Of course, Swifty isn't going to let that happen.
And with the help of his friends, an introverted polar bear, a crafty fox, two paranoid otters, and a scatterbrained albatross, he's going to make sure the plan doesn't go through. Join Swifty and his friends on their adventure to Netflix in May.
Hangman
Hangman is a 2017 crime thriller starring Al Pacino and Karl Urban. The story follows Pacino and Urban's characters, a retired detective and one of his old colleagues as they hunt down a serial killer who is using the guessing game "hangman" to base his murders. Now, the detectives are on the clock, having to figure out who the killer is going to strike next before its too late.
If you're interested in the murder mystery genre, then you're not going to want to miss your chance to watch Hangman. The film is scheduled to be released on the Netflix streaming platform on May 6, 2020.
Workin' Moms Season 4
PR executive Kate, her long-time friend Anne, and their judgmental mommies' group friend Frankie are back and better than ever in Workin' Moms season four. Although there have been no plot leaks for the fourth season, series creator Catherine Reitman promises fans that they are going to get a lot of the same brutal honesty the show is known for.
Reitman made it her mission to accurately portray the trials and tribulations of motherhood, basing the series off her personal experiences. If you haven't seen Workin' Moms, then your going to want to binge-watch the first three seasons before May!
Scissor Seven Season 2
Back in action with his trusty pair of hairdresser scissors is Wu Liuqi in the second season of Scissor Seven, an anime series. The show follows Wu Liuqi, a contract killer known for being the master of disguise. Unfortunately, he has issues actually completing the assignments he's tasked with.
But he knows he's not the best and offers his services for a very cheap price. Get ready to follow Wu Liuqi in all of his adventures this May when the second season of Scissor Seven launches on Netflix.
Dead to Me Season 2
After being left with a serious cliffhanger at the end of the first season, fans of the dark comedy Dead to Me will be pleased to know the second season is scheduled to air on Netflix in May. At the end of the first season, we're left with Judy finding out she's responsible for her husband's death, and Jen is standing over Judy's ex-fiance Steve with a gun in her hand, yikes.
Now, the two ladies are back. And fans are going to get some answers they desperately want. One teaser creator Liz Feldman gave is that the second season is going to explore the women's complex relationship further.
Restaurants on the Edge
With the stay-at-home order in place and restaurants closing down in-house eating, it's only fair that we get to see some inspirational restaurant makeovers via Netflix. Restaurants on the Edge is a reality show that follows around a designer, chef, and restaurateur as they travel the globe in search of restaurants in dire need of a facelift.
Their hope is to revamp each establishment in a way that is inspirational, positive, and uplifting for both the employees and the customers who dine there. It's no Gorden Ramsey show, but it will get you in the mood to dine out once the social distancing order is lifted.
Sleepless
Jamie Foxx plays Vincent Downs in the action film Sleepless. The movie follows Downs, an undercover Las Vegas police officer who finds himself in a web of gangsters, corrupt cops, and internal affairs agents. Then, the unexpected happens, Downs' son is kidnapped, and it's up to him to race against the sunrise to find him and bring the criminals to justice.
The movie is fast-paced, full of action, and is sure to keep you on the edge of your seat the entire way through. If you're interested to see if officer Downs' is able to save his son, be sure to watch Sleepless when it comes to Netflix May 8.
The Eddy
Written by Jack Thorne and with original music by Glen Ballard and Randy Kerber comes the French musical drama series The Eddy. The series will follow Elliot Udo, a club owner who runs his jazz venue in the multicultural neighborhoods of modern-day Paris. Viewers will watch as Udo deals with the day to day struggles of running a live music joint in the City of Love.
The eight-episode series is promised to be full of music, questionable practices that lean closer towards crime, family struggles, and so much more. Be sure to join Udo at his club The Eddy on May 8, 2020.
The Hollow Season 2
Two years after the finale of season one, Adam, Kai, and Mira are back in action for the second season of the animated series The Hollow. At the end of the first season, viewers watch as the three kids come back to the real world after their adventure through a magical portal.
In the mystical land, they encountered beasts and strange puzzles, never knowing if they were going to make it back home. Now that they're there, we can only guess what their next adventure holds. Well, we don't have to wait much longer. The Hollow season two is scheduled to release on Netflix on May 8, 2020.
The Wrong Missy
The Wrong Missy is produced by Adam Sandler and stars David Spade, so you can imagine it gets a little wild. The movie follows Tim Morris, a man who finally meets his dream girl and invites her to his company's work retreat. Plot twist: when he gets to camp, his dream girl isn't there, but rather the crazy girl he had a blind date with in the past.
As it turns out, he'd been texting the wrong woman! Now, Morris has to spend an entire weekend with the lady from his past. If you need some laughter in your life, you're not going to want to miss The Wrong Missy.
Trial by Media
Trial by Media is a term used to explain the impact of media platforms during the coverage of high-profile cases, illustrating the public's opinion on the guilt or innocence of a person before a verdict because of the media's influence. The new Netflix docu-series of the same name explores just that, how modern media shapes the public's perception of court cases.
The series will elaborate on some memorable cases throughout history, while diving into different aspects of the law, including Jenny Jones' made-for-Court TV murder trials. If you're a true crime fanatic, then you're going to enjoy Trial By Media when it comes out in May.
Spelling the Dream
Spelling the Dream documents the incredible journey of Indian-Americans winning the Scripps National Spelling Bee 12 years running and what it means for their community. The documentary features interviews from CNN's Dr. Sanjay Gupta and Fareed Zakaria, ESPN's Kevin Negandhi, and the 1999 Scripps National Spelling Bee winner, Nupur Lala, among others.
The film follows the story of four contenders as they explain their family life, spelling bee training, and show the ups and downs of chasing their dream of winning the highly televised spelling bee competition. Spelling the Dream will be available for your streaming pleasure on May 23, 2020.
Uncut Gems
The critically acclaimed Adam Sandler drama film Uncut Gems is making its way to Netflix in May. In the movie, Sandler plays Howard Ratner, a jeweler and gambling addict living in New York. The issue is that he has a considerable debt that needs to be paid off, and he doesn't have the money.
His solution is to use a costly gem to pay what he owes. Unfortunately, he doesn't exactly have the gem on hand. If you haven't seen this film yet, now is your chance. Uncut Gems is scheduled to be released on Netflix's streaming platform on May 25, 2020.
Space Force Season 1
For everyone who remembers when Space Force was going to be a thing, you'll be happy to hear Steve Carell and Greg Daniels created a mockumentary series around the fictional military branch. The series centers on a group of people who are tasked with organizing and establishing a sixth branch of the United States armed forces, a branch that would be known as Space Force.
Starring Carell as General Mark R. Naird, the show is bound to be a riot from the get-go. Be sure to catch the ten-episode series when it's launched to Netflix on May 31, 2020.
She-Ra and the Princess of Power Season 5
The animated fantasy epic She-Ra and the Princess of Power will have its final season released to Netflix on May 15. In season one, viewers watch as an orphan girl comes in contact with a magical sword, transforming her into She-Ra. From there, adventure ensues with friendships and mythology.
But any fan of the show knows that She-Ra's story couldn't go on forever, especially after the finale of season four, where the magical sword breaks (sorry for the spoiler). If you haven't seen this series, it's time to binge-watch before season five makes its Netflix debut on May 15, 2020.
