The Spin-Off That Flopped Before It Began

After nine seasons of success, it seemed inevitable that The Office would span a sitcom. Rainn Wilson’s Dwight Schrute, Michael Scott’s loyal, archaic, and odd assistant, was one of the most popular characters on the show, so NBC began toying with the idea of a spin-off series, The Farm, which would follow Dwight, his cousin Mose, and the rest of the Schrutes as they ran a bed and breakfast on their infamous beet farm.

However, the spin-off flopped before it even began, with NBC deciding not to go forward with the series. The backdoor pilot instead aired as part of the ninth and final season of The Office, and didn’t stand out as one of the show’s stronger episodes.
