The Office: A Peek Behind The Scenes
The Kiss Between Michael and Oscar Was Improvised
In the 2006 episode: “The Office: Gay Witch Hunt,” Michael Scott calls Oscar Martinez a homosexual slur, but when Michael finds out Oscar is really gay, he goes to great lengths to prove he’s not homophobic. Michael does this by calling an uncomfortable meeting for the entire office to apologize.
The writers of The Office originally wrote the scene as Steve Carell hugging Oscar Nunez to prove he wasn’t homophobic—but Carell improvised, with his clueless character Michael Scott instead giving Oscar a kiss on the lips. The shock on Oscar Nunez’s face wasn’t just the product of great acting.
